Slow Down You Move too Fast …

Worship, Wednesdays, and Weekly groups during Lent

Do you feel like you are constantly racing to keep up?  Do you move faster only to be further behind?  Is life racing past you?  Are you trying to do more and more things with less and less time?  Join us for worship during Lent as we explore the theme of:  Addicted to Hurry

SMALL GROUP STUDY: Addicted to Hurry

On Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the library, Paige Brooks will host a Small Group study of an intriguing book called Addicted to Hurry by Kirk Jones.  In this book, Jones debunks the “need for speed” mentality that so many in our society embrace today.  He also offers an alternative way he calls The Sacred Savoring Pace.  Everyone is welcome.

ONLINE LENTEN STUDY, The Gospel of Mark

The online study is The Gospel of Mark, the Scribe for Peter. Mark was Peter’s disciple and wrote down Peter’s eyewitness accounts.  He was also a major character in the Acts of the Apostles.  Through this study, we are going to be able to sense how Mark felt.  We’ll examine the first Gospel ever written and we’ll get to know the man who wrote it.  By joining the study, daily reflections on these passages will be sent to your email, as well as discussions about the reflections. Contact Karen at karen@northbrookumc.org to sign up.

COVENANT GROUP

On Wednesday mornings during Lent, beginning Feb. 29, 6:30 – 7:30 a.m., we will have a covenant group that will meet to support each other in the Lenten discipline of slowing down.  You may decide this Lent to give up speeding in your car.  Or maybe you will decide to give up Facebook or TV to leave more time for silence and prayer.  Whatever you decide you want to do or give up in order to get way from being Addicted to Hurry, a covenant group can help you stay the course on this change. We will meet at Pastor Melissa’s house from 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. to check in on our Lenten discipline and to pray for each other.

Wednesday DINNER AND SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

Every Wednesday during Lent beginning Feb. 29, we will have a soup dinner, followed by a time to learn about and practice a different spiritual practice.  We will eat dinner at 6:30 p.m. and then try the prayer practice at 6:45 for about 35 minutes in Penberthy Hall.  Each week will be different – come to one or come to all!

·         February 29 – Centering Prayer

·         March 7 – Journaling

·         March 14 – Taize (the use of simple songs for prayer)

·         March 21 – Coloring Mandalas (mandala is a Sanskrit word meaning circle)

·         March 28 –Praying through Art (Lectio Visio)
